Emerald Hill 45

Excavation support and foundation works for Emerald Hill 45 in Dago, Bandung. 151 drilled piles in total, delivered from November 2021 to January 2022 — in the middle of the rainy season.

83 soldier piles Ø 400 mm form the excavation retaining wall, tied together by a capping beam at the pile heads; most were drilled 16–20 metres deep. 68 bored piles Ø 600 mm carry the building, typically 12–15 metres deep, the deepest reaching 22.6 metres.

The ground was far from uniform: firm to very stiff silty clay in the top ten metres, a soft layer at roughly 10–14 metres, then very hard cemented silty clay below. Drilling began with an observation well to monitor groundwater, and every pile was logged in its own piling record: depth, soil layers encountered and concrete volume.
