Dago Pakar Residence

Deep foundations for the Dago Pakar Residence housing area in the hills north of Bandung: 69 bored piles and 33 soldier piles across a 920 square metre site, at roughly 860 metres above sea level.

The challenge here was the shape of the ground, not the piles. The surface steps down with the slope, and part of the site runs straight along a face at risk of sliding. Soldier piles form the retaining line on that steep side, while the bored piles carry the building above.

On a slope like this a rig cannot simply move from one position to the next. A working platform is levelled first at each position so that the rig stands upright and the hole does not drift off vertical.

Where the mixer truck chute could not reach, concrete was moved in a bucket lifted by crane. It is slower than pouring directly, but it keeps the mix arriving cleanly at the bottom of the hole.
