Ground Anchor Services
A ground anchor is a steel tendon installed at an angle into the soil behind a retaining wall, then stressed and locked off. It holds the wall from behind, so the wall need not carry the full earth pressure alone.
Used when an excavation is too deep for a cantilever wall alone, or when there is no room for bracing across the excavation — for instance because the working area must stay clear for plant.
Sequence of Work
From drilling to lock-offThe hole is drilled through the retaining wall at a set inclination, past the failure plane and into stable ground behind it.
A steel bar or strand is inserted into the hole. The far end is bonded into the grout; the length near the wall is left free so it can be stressed.
The hole is filled with cement grout bonding the tendon to the surrounding soil. Anchor capacity is determined at this stage — and can only be tested once the grout has cured.
The tendon is jacked to design load, tested, then locked off at the anchor head on the wall face. This proof test is the evidence that the anchor genuinely carries its design load.

Since 2014We have carried out ground anchor works since 2014, at that time using a gantry rig. Project records from that period were not retained, so this page presents no figures or case studies — we would rather state the position plainly than show what we cannot evidence.
